ABOUT US
Just us empowering communities to protect their natural heritage and build a sustainable future
WHO WE ARE
FReECo was founded in response to critical gaps identified in the conservation process, particularly the exclusion of local communities from managing and protecting their natural resources. This lack of involvement has led to conservation efforts that prioritize research over actionable solutions, resulting in ineffective strategies and the eventual failure of biodiversity sustainability initiatives.FReECo is committed to reversing this trend by empowering communities to play an active role in conservation, ensuring more effective and lasting impact.FReECo is legalized by the Ministry of Territorial Administration as a local conservation association headquartered in Bangem (Ancestral Town of Bakossi tribe), with REGISTRATION No. 268/AG/G.42/31/AJPAS. On February 13 2026, we received accreditation from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) as a UNCCD Civil Society Organisation (CSO)
MISSION
Our mission is to restore degraded ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable economic growth by supporting environmentally friendly livelihoods. We help communities adopt nature-based solutions—such as eco-agriculture, reforestation, and green entrepreneurship—that protect natural resources while creating long-term income. We believe that environmental restoration and economic development must go hand in hand. By investing in local skills, traditional knowledge, and innovative practices, we empower people to become stewards of their environment. Our goal is to build resilient ecosystems and self-reliant communities that can thrive for generations to come.
